I’ve been on a Hawaiian food craze for the past 10 months that I’ve lived in the San Diego area. There are more Hawaiian restaurants in the area than I realized. I’ve tried quite a few already. Duke’s is probably the crown jewel of them all. This restaurant is based in Hawaii. The La Jolla location is huge. There’s a part of the restaurant that overlooks the ocean and you could see La Jolla Shores to the right and La Jolla Cove to the left. It’s gorgeous during sunset time. I love this place. It is a bit expensive so I’d suggest only for special occasions or splurging. One of my former coworkers came to visit me and I haven’t seen him in almost a year. That counts right? Haha 🙂

The calamari appetizer is amazing. I love it! Some people have said it’s not seasoned enough. That’s what the sauce is for. Duh.
I ordered halibut steamed in banana leaves with shrimp, coconut rice, and spicy bok choy. It was so good.
Kimo’s hula pie. This is the best damn pie ever. It’s macadamia nut ice cream on a chocolate cookie crust topped with chocolate ganache, whipped cream, hot fudge sauce, and chopped macadamia nuts. Seriously. If I was on the Food Network show The Best Thing I Ever Ate, this pie would be on there.

Duke’s is very close to the ocean. It’s in walking distance. There’s also a ton of restaurants down the road. Trust me, it’s delicious. Aloha! xoxo, J.
